Mitch Jarvie

📣 Fun Fact: Mitch has played every position on the volleyball court for at least one full season—proving just how versatile he truly is! 💪

Nathan Van Huizen

Playing Experience: Nathan’s volleyball journey even led him to LA, where he moved to pursue his dreams of Beach Volleyball at a higher level. 🏖️ It’s been a challenging and rewarding experience, and he wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Nickname: Known to friends and teammates as Dizzle 😎, Nathan brings energy and personality wherever he goes.

Fun Fact: Nathan can do the Loon Call with his hands! 🦢 It’s a signature move that always surprises and impresses.

Go-to Starbucks order: Americano ☕ to keep him fueled and focused during the busy coaching seasons.

Mathias Elser

Playing Experience:

  • Mathias’ volleyball journey spans both domestic and international competition.
  • He played 4 years at Trinity Western University
  • His impressive skills earned him a spot on the Canadian National Team, where he represented Canada 🇨🇦 for 4 years with the U21 squad and 2 years with the Senior A Team. 
  • His professional career also took him to Poitiers, France 🇫🇷, where he played for one season. 

Fun Fact: When he’s not coaching or playing, Mathias runs a volleyball podcast with his two brothers, @pit2pro – be sure to check it out for great insights and discussions about the game! 🎙️

Trevor Dmitruk

Playing Experience: His passion for the game runs deep, having played for the University of Manitoba, the National B Team, and as a pro in Grenoble, France

As a coach, Trev’s leadership speaks for itself with 7 National Championship titles under his belt – 6 as a player, 1 as a coach, and a unique title as a player/coach.

Nickname: “Trev the Rev” which is either a reference to his preaching volleyball knowledge (Reverend) or to his ability to increase a team’s energy and performance (Rev me up)!

Fun Fact: Beyond the volleyball accolades, he’s also made a name for himself in some other championship events…

Henderson Tran

With over 2 decades of coaching experience, Henderson has guided teams from 13U to 15U Boys and even High School Boys since 2000. His passion for the game and dedication to developing players has made him a standout coach in the community. 🏐💪

Fun Fact: What’s even more impressive? Despite his coaching success, Henderson never played the game himself – proving that passion and knowledge can go a long way in inspiring others! 🔥

Go-to Starbucks drink: He’s all about keeping it simple – just water. 💧💯

Jeff Ingwerson

Playing Experience: From high school ball at ACS to 4 seasons at TWU (3 as captain!), he’s played at every level and knows what it takes to succeed.

Nickname: Known for earning plenty of nicknames over the years, his all-time favorite is “Pango” (if you know, you know 😉).

Fun fact: In Grade 11, Coach Jeff ate McDonald’s for lunch 72 days in a row and worked at KFC after school… talk about dedication! 🍔🍟

Go-to Starbucks order: Not coffee—he’s all about that banana bread 🍌🍞 (you can always count on him to satisfy his sweet tooth!).

James Phu

Playing Experience: James played volleyball at Okanagan University (now UBCO), where he honed his skills and love for the game.

Nickname: His teammates call him Phu—a nickname that’s stuck with him through the years!

Fun Fact: When he’s not coaching, James is exploring the world. He’s visited 16 countries so far and has plans to add a few more to his list next year. 🌍✈️

Go-to Starbucks Order: James keeps it simple with a Black Americano—strong and to the point. ☕

Marco Russo

After coaching at another club, Marco wanted to continue growing the sport of boys’ volleyball in the Fraser Valley. He chose FVVC because of the incredible coaches he’s worked with throughout his career and the club’s alignment with his own values of excellence, integrity, and fostering growth in young athletes.

With over 10 years of coaching experience across all age groups for both boys and girls, Marco brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the team.

He played as a setter for UFV from 2005-2009

Nickname: He goes by “Russo” with his former teammates (no nickname necessary!)

Fun fact: Marco can wiggle his ears without touching them! 😆

Go-to Starbucks order: An upside-down Iced Caramel Macchiato. ☕

Eric Urteaga

With a solid reputation for excellence, FVVC is the perfect place for Coach Eric to continue growing as a coach and make an impact in his local community.

Previous Coaching Experience:

  • Coach Eric has spent the past few years coaching volleyball at Brookswood Secondary
  • He is also actively involved in a volleyball skill development program for younger players.
  • This will be his second season coaching club volleyball, bringing a wealth of coaching experience from other sports like racquetball, where he’s had many years of success. 🏸

Playing Experience: Originally from Kelowna, Eric played volleyball at Kelowna Secondary School (KSS) and enjoyed countless summers of beach volleyball in the beautiful Okanagan. 🌊🏐

Fun Fact: Don’t challenge Coach Eric to a pickleball match… 😎🏓

Go-To Starbucks Order: Brown Sugar Oat Shaken Espresso – because who doesn’t love a little sweetness with their hustle? 

Dennis Bokenfohr

Coaching Experience: Most recently, Dennis has been working with the U13 – U15 volleyball teams, coaching both boys and girls. His background includes coaching the men’s volleyball program at UFV, as well as stepping into a leadership role with the women’s UFV team.

Playing Experience: A proud graduate of Agassiz Secondary, Dennis took his game to the next level at UFV, where he not only played volleyball but also had the unique experience of being on the rowing team for one year!

Nickname: 🤔 You’ll have to ask around!

Fun Fact: Dennis believes Shrek may just be the greatest actor of all time—arguably a solid opinion. 😂

Go-to Starbucks Order: A tall blonde coffee with 1 cream and 1 honey.

Peter Rolleman

Coaching Experience: Although his coaching background is primarily in basketball at the Elementary and Junior High levels, volleyball has always been his favorite sport. He’s thrilled to shift his focus and dive into coaching volleyball! 🏀➡️🏐

Playing Experience: Coach Peter played as a middle hitter from Grade 6 through Grade 12 at Centennial Christian School and Caledonia Senior Secondary School in Terrace. After moving to Langley, he stayed active in the sport by playing in adult recreational leagues and spent a few years officiating as a provincial-ranked referee. He loves how the referee stand gives a unique view of how teams and coaches work through their strategies. 🎥👟

Fun Fact: Peter is also a singer! 🎤 He performed in school musicals and was part of a Ukulele Honor Group. Now, he leads vocals at church once a month – talk about a multi-talented coach! 🎶

Go-To Starbucks Order: Coach Peter is all about a London Fog with sugar-free vanilla (because, surprisingly, it tastes sweeter!). ☕✨

Derek Shuel

Coaching Experience:

  • 3 years with Team BC U16 Boys and U18 Girls
  • 1 year as the Zone 3 BC Summer Games U15 Boys Head Coach
  • 23 years coaching Jr. & Sr. Boys
  • 7 years coaching Girls U14-18 with Campbell River Crush
  • Lead Development Coach for Campbell River
  • Currently in his 9th year coaching Sr. and Jr. Boys with the MEI Eagles and serving as the MEI Volleyball Director

Despite coming to volleyball later in life, Shigerwoods has an impressive sports background. He played in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Medicine Hat Tigers 🏒 and also spent two seasons with the U18 Provincial Baseball Team ⚾.

Fun Fact: Coach Derek led the FVVC U15 Boys to a Tier 1 Division 1 National Championship last season (2023-24)! 🏆 What’s more fun than that?!
